Inspired by the exotic flowers of the rain forest - particularly those found in Malaysia in South East Asia, this floral print features dramatic bold and dark pink colors with different tones of green. The batik background was inspired by the textiles of Malaysia as well, to keep the tropical feel and make it consistent with the region.
For the past five years, I have designed many home decor prints and have sold many as shower curtains. This past summer, I changed my process and began designing coordinated collections for the home decor market. Each collection features a similar color palette and theme, but my intention is to continue to build on these collections creating other prints that are similar in mood and color. As an artist, I find it very satisfying to be able to start with a simple concept and create many works from that one inspiring idea.
I specialize in surface pattern design - creating print and pattern collections - with a focus on the home decor market. Being a mixed media artist first, each element is created in either acrylic, watercolor, or pen and ink, then scanned and manipulated digitally until I am satisfied with the pattern and composition.
